Summertime & the Livin' Is Easy

July 25, 2017

Hey Y'all! It has been awhile since I have blogged, but I have been very busy! I took a short break from blogging this summer, but I'm back! A lot of changes have happened for Tyler and me in the last couple of months. As many of you know, we recently moved into our new home. We are absolutely thrilled to have a place of our own. Also, I accepted a full time staff position which means a set schedule and less traveling for me. I have been floating for the last year, and I was more than ready to settle down into a staff position. I loved getting to travel and visit all the pharmacies in the area, but sometimes it meant having a hectic/undesirable schedule. I am excited to officially start as a staff pharmacist in August.

I have had many requests for pictures of our home (they're coming.. I promise!), but for this post, I wanted to focus on what we have been up to all summer. I kicked off the summer with our annual trip to the Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia. Kelly and I drove up for a short stay with our parents and friends. We love getting to spend time relaxing with everyone. It is a tradition that I treasure. This year's trip was full of excitement including a run in with the police.. yes, I got pulled over. Yes, I got a ticket. Yes, I was at the entrance of the Homestead. I almost made it LOL My dad even warned me to go slow since it was a holiday weekend, but in true Courtney fashion, I got pulled over on a back road going 43 in a 25. I am not kidding when I say every time I've ever gotten a ticket (only two times people LOL) it has been when the speed limit is 25. Kelly thought she would be funny and video the encounter.

After I calmed down from getting pulled over, we met mom for lunch at The Jefferson. Their fried green tomatoes are awesome! Then we headed down to the main lawn to check out the petting zoo. We loved on all of the baby animals. They were so cute!! We spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool before heading to dinner that evening. As usual, it was a wonderful weekend getaway at one of my favorite resorts.

In June, Tyler and I celebrated our two year wedding anniversary. It is hard to believe we have already been married for two years. In one sense, it has flown by. I think back to all the things we have experienced in these last two years, and it is feels like it went by in a flash. On the other hand, I feel like I've known Tyler all my life, and to say we've only been married for two years doesn't really hold a candle to how long it feels like I've been his wife. We have created a beautiful life together, and I can't imagine growing old with anyone else. I'm excited to see what the future has in store for us!

Another exciting thing that happened this summer is my parents bought a boat! I have always had a love/hate relationship with the water. I love being NEAR water, but I don't like getting in it. I have an odd fear of getting into water that I can't see through. However, this boat has slowly helped me get over my fear. I'm not jumping into the Kanawha just yet, but I did get on a jet ski with Tyler which required me to be "out in the water." Well, at least more than I usually am. We have taken the boat out several times this summer so far, and each time I fall more and more in love with it. There is something so relaxing about being out on the water. It is like seeing a side of Charleston that I never knew existed. The city has such a different feel from down there. I love it!

Besides working, settling into our house, and enjoying time out on the water, Tyler and I have been lucky enough to squeeze in some time with friends. We knew we wanted to find a church near our new home quickly, and we really enjoyed the first one we went to. I didn't know at the time, but we actually have several friends that already go to this church. Y'all, you won't believe how kind everyone was. So many people came up to greet us and welcome us to their church. On Monday evening when I got home from work, there was a package on my front porch. I opened it up to the sweetest note and a freshly baked loaf of homemade bread. I almost cried at the thoughtfulness. Needless to say, we are eager to develop new relationships and continue attending services at this church!

My mom brought my grandparents over for a visit. We enjoyed spending the day together!

Later that same evening, Tyler and I set up to have a couple of friends over. We hooked up the TV on the porch (one of my most favorite parts of our house), and I prepared some snacks for everyone.

This is a picture I snapped before we finished putting out all the food. We had a spread! Salad, potatoes, mac and cheese, baked beans, hamburgers, and hotdogs. The little tub was a gift from my bridal shower. I added ice and drinks to it, and it made the perfect decorative cooler!

A couple of the gals that came over that night. The guys didn't want a picture LOL I met both of these girls when I first moved to Charleston, and I'm so thankful for their friendship!

Now, I know you all must be wondering what Scruffy has been up to all summer. Here are a few pictures I have snapped of my baby girl recently.

These are pictures of the chunky girl finding any ray of sunlight that comes into the house.

Ignore me in this picture LOL

I hope you all enjoyed this quick recap of my summer so far. Upcoming posts will include the building process of our house, an empty house tour, and our upcoming vacation. Until next time.. Take care y'all!
